Walk on Water

It’s time to get out of the boat and walk on water. You may get a little wet, but it will be worth it. All the things you were created to do requires faith. It requires courage not in yourself, but in The Maker. You have to step out of the boat like Peter and walk, knowing that God’s got you. Let’s set the scene.

Peter and the other disciples were in a body of water far away from any shore. The atmosphere around them was turbulent with gusty winds and boisterous waves. The boat they were on was being tossed to and fro. Imagine in the middle of the night around 3am you see someone coming toward you, it looks like a person walking on water. Everyone’s looking intently and feeling frightened at the same time, unsure of what they are seeing. Jesus then spoke, imagine hearing His voice, that calms your fears. He said “Don’t be afraid. Take courage. I am here!” Peter then bid the Lord to invite him to walk on the water. Jesus told him to come. Peter is walking, but then he felt those gusty winds with the boisterous waves, and began to sink. He shouted to Jesus who immediately reached out and grabbed him.

This is a lot of our realities. We are afraid or worried or anxious about what is going on around us. We are often concerned about what other people will think, wondering if we will fail, are we qualified enough, or smart enough to do that thing before stepping out. These things leave us paralyzed and afraid to move, often missing out on the great things that God has for us, and for others through us. But imagine if the same God amidst the gusty winds and boisterous waves beckons you to walk on water. Would you be willing to stand up and get out of the boat? Would you even dare to just take a step knowing that you could only sink so far before the loving arms of Jesus reaches out and grabs you? Oh ye of little faith. Imagine if you are walking on water and in that moment you happen to take your eyes off Jesus. You begin to focus on the waves and start to embrace the gusty wind a bit too long; you cry out to Jesus, and He reaches out and grabs you. You are safe. You realize you have always been safe.

Although the thought of walking on water is scary; the act of walking on water is exhilarating. Life, blessings, growth, and favor await you outside of the boat. As you move forward with God’s direction you can be assured that He will meet you every step of the way. Where your faith fails, His hands prevail.

With every step your faith increases more. So I ask you today, what’s keeping you from doing what God has placed in your heart? What is keeping you from using the gifts and talents He has given you? Is it fear of failure or fear of success? Is it that you are concerned with what people might say? Is it that you are unmotivated or a procrastinator? Maybe it’s just that you don’t want to do what He is telling you to do? Or maybe you’re scared because you don’t know every move you have to make at this very moment? Whatever it is, don’t let that keep you from getting out of the boat. Step out with eyes on Jesus. When crazy things are going on around you, and you feel the wind blowing stay focused on who it is that has called you. Keep your eyes on The One who has the ability to grab you.

As always, if you would like prayer do not hesitate to reach out, I would be honored to pray with and for you. God bless!
