“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
~John 3:16-17 KJV
Salvation
How do I accept Jesus as my Savior?
- The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12 states that there is Salvation in no other name but Jesus Christ .
- Step 1. Acknowledge and Confess that Jesus is Lord. Step 2. Believe that God raised Jesus from the dead.
- “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 NLT
The Holy Spirit
Who is the Holy Spirit and what is the purpose of the Holy Spirit?
- God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit are often referred to as the Trinity. The Trinity is God in three forms. Each form has a different function for specific purposes.
- The Holy Spirit is God’s spirit living inside of you at the point of salvation. He is a Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor-Counselor, Strengthener) who will be with you and in you forever. (John 14:16-17)
Sanctification
What happens once I accept Jesus as my Savior?
- Once you accept Jesus as your Savior the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within you to help you live a life that pleases God and connect your spirit to the Father.
- Sanctification is the process by which God transforms (cleanses and purifies) your heart. During this time God is transforming you more and more each day into His image in your knowledge, understanding, thoughts, actions, and words. This process takes time and He will continue to work on you until He returns for all of those who have accepted Him as Savior.
- Due to everyone being uniquely created with vast life experiences, upbringings, and personalities; sanctification looks different on everyone. Every believer is a work in progress learning different truths at different times and in different ways. The hope is the more one seeks God the more knowledgeable he/she becomes and the greater the capacity he/she has to understand the grandness of God
- See 1 John 15:1-27
What is Baptism?
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. It does not save you. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us that good works do not save us. That we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. It is a symbol that shows Jesus and the world we are committed to Him. We are no longer a slave to this world but have dedicated our life to being a slave to Christ.
“Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:9 KJV
When you get baptized you are making a public statement: Hey, I am a child of God. We get baptized because Jesus has told us to continue to baptize believers and to be baptized. You want the world to know you serve the God who parted the Red Sea, turned water into wine, and redeemed you.
Remember: Getting baptized is telling the world about the transformation already taking place within you since you’ve accepted Jesus Christ as your personal LORD and Savior!
Discipleship
Once we have knowledge of God, we as believers are commissioned to go out and tell others the “Good News”. The Good News is that God sent His only Son to die on the cross for our sins so that we would have the opportunity to live with Him on earth and for eternity.
We are also instructed to help one another to learn the commands written in the Bible and the importance of observing them.
“Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”” ~Matthew 28:18-20 NLT
Saved Now What?
The Bible instructs us to assemble with other believers. This assembling helps us to grow our faith through studying the WORD of God, sharing testimonies, worshipping corporately, and exchanging life. Attending church helps to encourage you to stay in the faith.
In Hebrews 10:23-25 it states, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” KJV
So I encourage you to get into a good Bible believing and teaching church. One that teaches the WORD of God and commissions it’s members to adhere to it. It’s okay and essential to learn what the church you desire to attend believes. You want to ensure it’s mission, vision, and guiding principles are based off of and line up with the Bible.
The church members (body of Christ) are not perfect as we are sinners saved by God’s grace. Take a look in the mirror, you yourself are far from perfect. You, like everyone else, have proclivities. At the point of salvation, Christ begins to prune the things in you that are not holy or conducive to reflecting His love. This process of sanctification takes time. Since we are all imperfect and will be until Christ returns; we must understand that the church (physical building with its members) will have incidents/interactions that occur amongst believers that are contrary to God’s WORD. Don’t get discouraged or run from the church itself. Your relationship with Christ is based upon His love for you. Don’t let people discourage you from serving, because it is God you are truly working for.
Keep in Mind…
That salvation is not a reward for the “good things” that you have done. You cannot earn His love. Therefore, since salvation is not earned, but is a gift from God, you cannot boast about it. One should be grateful and humbled by His compassion to save them. Remember He has saved each one of us by His grace, having faith to believe in Him. (Ephesians 2:8-9). Know that is God who draws you toward Christ. It is God who gives you the desire to come to Christ and accept the gift of salvation by faith.
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” ~Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT
“The Father has sent me. Nobody can come to me unless the Father brings them to me. I will raise those people up on the last day, so that they have life for ever.”
